Laparoscopy: A Proven Alternative
Quicker Recover;
Leaves Small Scars!
"You need surgery!" Immediately you envision an extended hospital
stay and weeks of recovery and pain. For many cases now there is a proven alternative
that has you back on your feet much sooner. It's popularly known as "minimally
invasive" or "small scar" surgery.
It's
surgery performed without a large incision. Procedures are done with multiple
small incisions through which are inserted miniaturized surgical instruments
and a camera.
We focus on a range of gastrointestinal problems such as anti-reflux disease,
gall bladder disease, removal of adrenal glands, the spleen, and hernia repairs.
Technically "minimally invasive" or "small scar" surgery
is called laparoscopic surgery. It is a medically advanced and fully accepted
type of surgery. Procedures done by surgeons Scott A. Shikora, MD and Michael
Tarnoff, MD are performed in New England's newest and most advanced operating
theatre at Boston's Tufts Medical Center.
