About Tufts Medical Center

Tufts Medical Center is a world-class, academic medical institution in Boston, and is home to two full-service hospitals, one serving adults and one — The Floating Hospital for Children — dedicated exclusively to all levels of pediatric care.

Superior Operating Rooms — The laparoscopic sugery suites at Tufts Medical Center, installed in October of 2002, are the most sophisticated, state-of-the-art, world-class facilities in the country. This "endosuite" is the first of its kind in New England.

Boston’s First
Full Service Hospital

In 1992, with the addition of a maternity service, Tufts Medical Center became the first private, full-service hospital in Boston. Tufts Medical Center features the entire complement of adult, maternity and pediatric services in a single location, as well as on-sight access to ongoing clinical research.

Numbers

The Medical Center currently (January 2003) has 421 licensed beds: 180 medical/surgical beds, 36 adult intensive care, 10 cardiac care unit, 66 pediatric (including 12 pediatric psychiatric beds), 22 pediatric intensive care, 40 neonatal intensive care, 23 post-partum, 20 adult psychiatric beds, as well as the 24 bassinets.
