Superior Operating Rooms The laparoscopic
sugery suites at Tufts Medical Center, installed
in October of 2002, are the most sophisticated,
state-of-the-art, world-class facilities
in the country. This "endosuite"
is the first of its kind in New England.
Located in downtown Boston, adjacent

Chinatown, Tufts Medical Center's state-of-the-art
diagnostic technology, modern facilities

The Medical Center is the principal teaching
hospital for Tufts University School of
Medicine. It also pioneers groundbreaking
research including numerous clinical trials
available exclusively at Tufts Medical Center.

the bodys rejection of transplanted
organs, coining the term "immunosuppression,"

obesity and heart disease. Tufts Medical Center
ranks among the top 10 percent of the

Bostons First
Full Service Hospital
In 1992, with the addition
of a maternity service, Tufts Medical Center became
the first private, full-service hospital
in Boston. Tufts Medical Center
features the entire complement of adult,
maternity and pediatric services in a
single location, as well as on-sight access
to ongoing clinical research.
Numbers
The Medical Center currently
(January 2003) has 421 licensed beds:
180 medical/surgical beds, 36 adult intensive
care, 10 cardiac care unit, 66 pediatric
(including 12 pediatric psychiatric beds),
22 pediatric intensive care, 40 neonatal
intensive care, 23 post-partum, 20 adult
psychiatric beds, as well as the 24 bassinets.
